Editor's note: This is Part 1 of an ongoing series of articles on the important subject of the critical triad: diet, exercise and supplementation.
It's not a new concept that we can increase our health and vitality through exercise, diet, and nutritional supplementation. Many of us are looking for ways to feel as great as possible, for as long as possible. Many things influence our longevity, including our blood sugar level. We can positively influence our health by maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. Over 10% of Americans have Diabetes, and millions more are battling with abnormally high blood sugar levels. It is an epidemic that a proactive approach needs to be taken in order to avoid.
One of the best ways to feel better and improve our overall health is through exercise. Exercise can be fun and invigorating. The release of endorphins creates an immediate sense of euphoria. The increased cardiac demand helps blood to flow smoothly and bring nutrients deep into our tissues. Aerobic exercise causes muscles burn sugar to fuel their activity, reducing blood sugar levels. Physical activity also metabolizes cortisol, a hormone that raises blood sugar.
The way that foods influence our blood sugar levels is measured with the Glycemic Index (GI). Foods with a lower GI break down into glucose slower. This reduces the need for and release of insulin and other hormones. This eases the work load of the pancreas, spleen and adrenal glands. It is when these organs and glands become "exhausted" and dysfunctional that Diabetes Type II and other metabolic syndromes are born. Vegetables, beans, and whole grains have a low GI, while white bread, white rice, and most processed foods have a high GI.
We live in a world of processed foods which are focused on size and weight, rather than nutritional content. Nutritional supplementation is essential to achieve and maintain optimum health and wellness. I personally think Apteka Naturel's Vitality Naturel™ Dietary Supplement for Energy & Well-Being is a unique combination of ingredients that help support and strengthen your metabolism. The herb Astragalus has been used for thousands of years in China, and recently been realized for its harmonizing effects on blood glucose levels. The ginseng and deer velvet antler have been used for many years to increase stamina, virility, and overall well being.
Only by taking control of our lives, and being proactive with our health, is it possible to stay healthy and feel great. Good luck in your adventures.
